When you hear the term Sound Healing, Sound Therapy or Gong Baths, you will no doubt think it ‘new age’ or at the very least an ‘alternative’ method for self healing. I was very much of that mindset too before I started my training as a Reiki Healer & Shamanic practitioner. Does sound healing ‘work’, What can i get out of it, how will it help me. All these questions were coming up for me and with the beauty of experience hopefully I can answer them for you to so you can see if sound healing is for you right now.
What is Sound Healing?
Sound Therapy is the use of sound, music and specialist instruments played to create vibration in therapeutic ways. This is combined with deep self-reflection and meditation techniques to improve health and wellbeing.
How can Sound Healing be therapeutic?
Sound healing can help you clear energetic blockages and facilitate healing on a physical and mental level. For some this can be very literal, they may feel the vibrations of the sound relaxing muscles or clearing blockages. For others this can be more of a mental activity, taking the time to relax and give life experiences some time to be considered and understood. Some of the reported benefits of sound therapy include.
- lower stress levels
- fewer mood swings
- decreased anxiety and depression
- improved memory
- lower blood pressure
- lower cholesterol
- improved sleep
Our flavour of Sound Healing
There are many different ways that practitioners can use sounds as a healing modality or therapy. Singing bows and Gongs are the most common, along with voce or Chakra tuning through specific tones and even tuning forks and repetitive chanting are used to bring balance the body, mind & spirit.
